Shambhala

Set in a Himalayan polyandrous village in Nepal, the story follows Pema, a pregnant woman whose first husband, Tashi, disappears while on a trade journey to Lhasa. In accordance with the polyandrous tradition, she is married to his brothers, and it is her second husband, Karma, a monk, who accompanies her on a journey to search for Tashi. Initially set as a search for her missing husband, the journey soon transforms into an intimate exploration of Pema's self-discovery and liberation. The film explores themes of love, personal freedom, and the intersection of worldly relationships with spiritual growth, all against the backdrop of Nepal’s remote Karnali region and its ancient customs.
