In 1995, Hangma leaves her husband Namsang after frequent arguments. She elopes with another man but returns when her family can't pay compensation for the elopement. Hangma chooses to repay it by working as Namsang's maid since she can't afford any other form of compensation. The story highlights her struggles in a male-dominated society.
